El fin - The Doors (1967)

Éste es el fin,

hermoso amigo.

The end

This is the end

Beautiful friend

This is the end

My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end

Of everything that stands, the end

No safety or surprise, the end

I'll never look into your eyes again.

Can you picture what will be

So limitless and free

Desperately in need of some stranger's hand

In a desperate land?

Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain

And all the children are insane

All the children are insane

Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town

Ride the King's highway, baby

Weird scenes inside the gold mine

Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake

To the lake, the ancient lake, baby

The snake is long, seven miles

Ride the snake, he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best

The west is the best

Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us

The blue bus is callin' us

Driver, where you taken' us?

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on

He took a face from the ancient gallery

And he walked on down the hall

He went into the room where his sister lived, and then he

Paid a visit to his brother, and then he

He walked on down the hall, and

And he came to a door and he looked inside

Father?

Yes son

I want to kill you

Mother, I want to fuck you!

C'mon baby, take a chance with us

And meet me at the back of the blue bus

Doin' a blue rock, on a blue bus

Doin' a blue rock, c'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill!

This is the end, beautiful friend

This is the end, my only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free

But you'll never follow me

The end of laughter and soft lies

The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

Ábrete camino (hacia el otro lado) - The Doors (1967)

¿Puedes recordar

el tiempo del llanto?

¡Ábrete camino hacia el otro lado!

Todos aman a mi nena,

todos aman a mi nena,

ella se eleva,

ella se eleva,

ella se eleva.

Encontré una isla en tus brazos,

un país en tus ojos.

Brazos que encadenan,

ojos mentirosos,

¡ábrete camino hacia el otro lado!

Fingí

semana tras semana,

día tras día,

hora tras hora.

El portal es recto,

profundo y amplio.

¡Ábrete camino hacia el otro lado!

Break On Through (To The Other Side)

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Yeah!
C'mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get (s high)
She get (s high)
She get (s high)
She get (s high)

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chained us
Eyes that lied
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through

Youngstown - Bruce Springsteen (1995)

Aquí, al noroeste de Ohio

en mil ochocientos tres

James y Dan Heaton

dulce Jenny, me hundo

dulce Jenny, me hundo

ahora mandamos a nuestros hijos a Corea y Vietnam

y nos preguntamos por qué siguen muriendo.

Aquí en Youngstown,

aquí en Youngstown,

dulce Jenny, me hundo

dulce Jenny, me hundo

aquí, querida, en Youngstown.

Cuando muera, no quiero ir al cielo,

no encajo en las tareas del Paraíso.

Ruego que me lleve el diablo

para enfrentar las furiosas hornallas del infierno.

"Youngstown"

Here in northeast Ohio
Back in eighteen-o-three
James and Dan Heaton
Found the ore that was lining Yellow Creek
They built a blast furnace
Here along the shore
And they made the cannonballs
That helped the Union win the war

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinking down
Here darling in Youngstown

Well, my daddy worked the furnaces
Kept them hotter than hell
I come home from 'Nam, worked my way to scarfer
A job that would suit the devil as well
Taconite coke and limestone
Fed my children and made my pay
The smokestacks reaching like the arms of God
Into a beautiful sky of soot and clay

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinking down
Here darling in Youngstown

Well, my daddy come on the Ohio works
When he come home from World War Two
Now the yard's just scrap and rubble
He said "Them big boys did what Hitler couldn't do"
These mills they built the tanks and bombs
That won this country's wars
We sent our sons to Korea and Vietnam
Now we're wondering what they were dying for

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinking down
Here darling in Youngstown

From the Monongahela valley
To the Mesabi iron range
To the coal mines of Appalachia
The story's always the same
Seven hundred tons of metal a day
Now sir, you tell me the world's changed
Once I made you rich enough
Rich enough to forget my name

Here in Youngstown
Here in Youngstown
My sweet Jenny I'm sinking down
Here darling in Youngstown

When I die I don't want no part of heaven
I would not do heaven's work well
I pray the devil comes and takes me
To stand in the fiery furnaces of hell

H.D. - "No caen las murallas" (1942)

Fuente: http://blogdelamasijo.blogspot.com/2013/05/hilda-doolittle-hd-no-caen-las-murallas.html

1

en verde, rojo rosado, lapislázuli;

ignorante, el Espíritu anuncia la Presencia;

nos sobreviene un escalofrío,

como antaño, Samuel:

temblando en una esquina familiar,

no sabemos ni somos sabidos;

la Pitia se pronuncia —pasamos

a otra bóveda, a otro muro hecho pedazos

donde los utensilios se ven

como raros objetos en un museo;

I

An incident here and there,

and rails gone (for guns)

from your (and my) old town square:

mist and mist-grey, no colour,

still the Luxor bee, chick and hare

pursue unalterable purpose

in green, rose-red, lapis;

they continue to prophesy

from the stone papyrus:

there, as here, ruin opens

the tomb, the temple; enter,

there as here, there are no doors:

the shrine lies open to the sky,

the rain falls, here, there

sand drifts; eternity endures:

ruin everywhere, yet as the fallen roof

leaves the sealed room

open to the air,

so, through our desolation,

thoughts stir, inspiration stalks us

through gloom:

unaware, Spirit announces the Presence;

shivering overtakes us,

as of old, Samuel:

trembling at a known street-corner,

we know not nor are known;

the Pythian pronounces —we pass on

to another cellar, to another sliced wall

where poor utensils show

like rare objects in a museum;

Pompei has nothing to teach us,

we know crack of volcanic fissure,

slow flow of terrible lava,

pressure on heart, lungs, the brain

about to burst its brittle case

(what the skull can endure!):

over us, Apocryphal fire,

under us, the earth sway, dip of a floor,

slope of a pavement

where men roll, drunk

with a new bewilderment,

sorcery, bedevilment:

the bone-frame was made for

no such shock knit within terror,

yet the skeleton stood up to it:

the flesh? it was melted away,

the heart burnt out, dead ember,

tendons, muscles shattered, outer husk dismembered

yet the frame held:

we passed the flame: we wonder

what saved us? what for?

2.

El Mal estaba activo en la tierra,

el Bien empobrecido y triste;

el Mal prometía aventura,

el Bien era obeso y presumido;

el Diablo nos perseguía,

disfrazado de Jehová;

el Bien era una vaina sin sabor,

arrancado de semillas de maná, lentejas, legumbres:

ellos estaban furiosos mientras nosotros estábamos hambrientos

del alimento, Dios;

nos quitaron nuestros amuletos,

los talismanes no son, dijeron, la gracia;

recuperemos nuestros viejos valores;

no escuchemos si ellos gritan,

tu belleza Isis, Ast o Astarté,

es una ramera; eres retrógrada,

idólatra, deseas viejas ollas de carne;

tu corazón, además,

es una gangrena mortal,

ellos prosiguen, y

su ritmo es el himno del diablo,

tu pluma es sumergida en sublimado corrosivo,

¿cómo puedes borrar

tinta indeleble del palimpsesto

la pasada desventura?

2.

Evil was active in the land,

Good was impoverished and sad;

Ill promised adventure,

Good was smug and fat;

Dev-ill was after us,

tricked up like Jehovah;

Good was the tasteless pod,

Stripped from the manna-beans, pulse, lentils:

they were angry when we were hungry

for the nourishment, God;

they snatched off our amulets,

charms are not, they said, grace;

but gods always face two-ways,

so let us search the old highways

for the true-rune, the right-spell,

recover old values;

nor listen if they shout out,

your beauty, Isis, Aset or Astarte,

is a harlot; you are retrogressive,

zealot, hankering after old flesh-pots;

your heart, moreover,

is a dead canker,

they continue, and

your rhythm is the devil’s hymn,

your stylus is dipped in corrosive sublimate,

how can you scratch out

indelible ink of the palimpsest

of past misadventure?

8

Entonces revelamos nuestro estado

adornos intelectuales;

los poetas no sirven para nada,

y más que eso,

nosotros, verdaderas reliquias,

portadores de la sabiduría oculta,

vestigios vivos

del sector interno

de los santuarios de los iniciados,

no solo somos ‘no-utilitarios’.

somos ‘patéticos’:

esta es la nueva herejía;

el lomo del áspid;

enigmas, rúbricas que prometen como antes,

protección al escriba;

8

So we reveal our status

with twin-horns, disk, erect serpent,

though these or the double-plume or lotus

are, you now tell us, trivial

intellectual adornment;

poets are useless,

more than that,

we, authentic relic,

bearers of the secret wisdom,

living remnant

of the inner band

of the sanctuaries’ initiate,

are not only ‘non-utilitarian’,

we are ‘pathetic’:

this is the new heresy;

but if you do not even understand what words say,

how can you expect to pass judgement

on what words conceal?

yet the ancient rubrics reveal that

we are back at the beginning:

you have a long way to go,

walk carefully, speak politely

to those who have done their worm-cycle,

for gods have been smashed before

and idols and their secret is stored

in man’s every speech,

in the trivial or

the real dream; insignia

in the heron’s crest,

the asp’s back,

enigmas, rubrics promise as before,

protection for the scribe;

he takes precedence of the priest,

stands second only to the Pharoah.

41

Sirio:

¿qué misterio es este?

eres semilla,

grano junto a la arena,

plantado en el surco

negro como el plomo.

Sirio:

¿qué misterio es este?

te has ahogado

en el río;

los riachuelos de la primavera

empujan las compuertas del agua.

Sirio:

¿qué misterio es este?

donde el calor quiebra y agrieta

el desierto de arena,

tú eres una neblina

de nieve: blancas, diminutas flores.

41

sirius:

What mystery is this?

you are seed,

corn near the sand,

enclosed in black-lead,

ploughed land.

Sirius:

what mystery is this?

you are drowned

in the river;

the spring freshets

push open the water-gates.

Sirius:

what mystery is this?

Where heat breaks and cracks

the sand-waste,

you are a mist

of snow: white, little flowers.

43

Pero no caen las murallas,

no entiendo por qué;

hay un ssss-silbido,

una nueva dimensión,

desconocida, del relámpago;

estamos indefensos,

polvo y pólvora anegan los pulmones,

nuestros cuerpos chocan

al cruzar las puertas desgoznadas,

ceden los dinteles

formando un aspa;

caminamos sin descanso

bajo un aire leve

que se espesa en niebla cegadora,

entonces nos apartamos

sin demora, porque ni del aire

podemos fiarnos,

denso donde habría de ser fino

y tenue

donde las alas se separan y abren,

y el éter

pesa más que el suelo,

y el suelo se comba

como en un naufragio;

no conocemos reglas

por las que guiarnos,

somos navegantes, exploradores

de lo desconocido,

lo no registrado;

carecemos de mapa;

quizá arribemos a puerto,

a cielo.

43

Still the walls do not fall,

I do not know why;

there is zrr-hiss,

lightning in a not-known,

unregistered dimension;

we are powerless,

dust and powder fill our lungs

our bodies blunder

through doors twisted on hinges,

and the lintels slant

cross-wise;

we walk continually

on thin air

that thickens to a blind fog,

then step swiftly aside,

for even the air

is independable,

thick where it should be fine

and tenuous

where wings separate and open,

and the ether

is heavier than the floor,

and the floor sags

like a ship floundering;

we know no rule

of procedure,

we are voyagers, discoverers

of the not-known,

the unrecorded;

we have no map;

possibly we will reach haven,

heaven.
